Power of Habit
Human beings are all creatures of their habits. We think we are the results of our decision or willpower but that is not true. Every one of us has a habit, be it good or worst habits that we follow consciously or unconsciously. We act in a certain situation because of the habit we follow. Power of habit is too strong than we think. The result of today is the product of our unconscious habit. Our children perform a lot of activities and certainly, we think it is the learning of their new skill. But as a parent, we very well know that most of the things they do are based on their art of habits.
One of the key skill for success is adapting and instilling good habits in us. Boost your productivity and learn new skills to reach the goal of your life. Habits are about our efficiency. They do not think what is right and wrong for us because of the fear of insecurity in our mind. Does this mean they can control us? Yes, once we are addicted and habitual to a habit, it becomes part of our daily routine. Our life starts depending on them, no matter what it is necessary or not for us. Some habits are too good to be addicted to and some sometimes become a hazard to our health. Just like the habit of self-discipline is good for us, in the same manner, a habit of taking things lightly can cause a problem to us.
Habits basically turn a pattern on our brain and they start structuring their behavior on us. But we human beings have a tendency and control over it to change them to good or just get them to a halt. Performing a habit means doing things beyond our self. The power of habit is so immense that sometimes we fail to notice the wrong in it. Our external environment pushes us to follow or adopt a habit to achieve our victories. It is our daily circle wherein we learn about new things. Often you can notice, we often tend to follow the habit of our successful mentors. It is quite important to think and analyze before you choose or select one of the habits, according to your lifestyle. People have different nature towards life. Some may be introvert towards life and some may be extrovert and enjoy life fully. Everyone has the power of choosing good or bad, but need to give a minimum of 21 days to it.
To understand a habit, let us discuss an instance:
A marketing scientist focused on the habit of cleaning. He produced one product that was scent free. A person would spray it, but the product did not produce any trigger to create a habit of using it. Then later as an experiment, they added a fresh scent and used it for cleaning. As a normal being, we would not prefer to but a scentless thing. On the other hand, a lot of people crave for the fresh scented product, which at the end became their habit of buying only the scented product for cleaning. Power of habit is too strong to ignore too. Even small things occupy our mind without a second.
The power of habit can be divided into few segments.
The First Segment focuses on human beings and how habits shape there lives. Habits can be broken, reset and persisted according to the situation and act of an individual.
The Second Segment considers the habit of an organization. Change in one habit can change the function as a whole of an organization.
The Third Segment looks at the habit of the societies. According to research, the pressure of weak norms lies in the social norms. They both are inter-connected.
Not all the habits are good, you sometimes get stuck with your bad habit. Drinking alcohol at one side makes us feel better and the other side the huge consumption of alcohol decreases our health and our physical strength to work. We ourselves appreciate these habits and trigger our mind to accept it as our daily routine. One good habit can trigger to form other new habits and the same way one bad habit can form different new bad habits on us. The power of habit is strong to cover our mindset and change our life from up to down or vice-versa.
Habits are not our destiny. We can transform ourselves, our societies and our communities by adopting good habits and take a step to educate and provide knowledge about each good and bad habits.
